Dental guard

Dental guard
A dental guard (also called an occlusal splint or bite guard) is a custom-made plastic mouthpiece worn at night to protect teeth from the wear and tear of grinding (bruxism) and clenching, relieve pressure on the jaw joints, and reduce pain in the jaw, neck, and head, often caused by stress. It creates a barrier between the upper and lower teeth and brings the jaws into a neutral position, allowing the chewing muscles to relax.
How it works
Protects: The plate covers the tooth cusps, so that the teeth no longer touch each other and wear is prevented.
Relieves: It helps to reduce tension on the chewing muscles and jaw joints.
Custom-made: It is made after an impression or digital scan of your teeth, for a comfortable fit.
Why it is necessary
Bruxism: Often a result of stress, where you unconsciously grind or clench your teeth.
Symptoms: May cause painful jaw, neck, headache, and difficulty opening the mouth.
Prevents damage: Protects against severe tooth wear and fractures.
Important
Always consult your dentist first for a diagnosis and to determine which type of retainer (hard, soft, or mixed) is best for you. A retainer that's too soft can actually worsen grinding. Give it time to adjust (2-3 weeks).
